January Krakow Ruby User Group Meeting - More Merb

Paul Klipp by Paul Klipp, 28 January 2009

This month's KRUG presenter fell ill on the day of the meeting, but Piotr Solnica saved the day by presenting Marcin Kulik's prepared presentation with only four hours advance notice. About sixty Krakow Ruby developers were present and the meeting was a success. The recent announced merger of Merb and Rails 3 has clearly inspired a great deal of interest in Merb among the local development community. You can download the presentation slides here.

A lesson from the freckle Manifesto

Paul Klipp by Paul Klipp, 22 January 2009

I just came across this time tracking system and I'm impressed with the team that created it. Of course, I love RubyTime because my team built it, but everyone has different needs and the freckle team seems to have built something very flexible and intuitive. What caught my eye was their manifesto. I have seen a lot of software built and can tell the difference between a project driven by a vision and one that is not. I have never seen such a clearly stated statement of design principle, though. This is lovely and I expect went a long way to inspire the development team and improve decision-making. I don't believe any software project leader could regret the time spent developing such a statement of principles with their development team.

I had to share this great introduction to Scrum

Paul Klipp by Paul Klipp, 6 January 2009

This is a great, short introduction to the Scrum methodology that is well worth ten minutes of your time, especially if you're new to Scrum or agile development.
